Dodge Durango 5.7L spark plug removal

  1. Remove the necessary air filter tubing and air intake components at the top of the engine, and at the throttle body.
  2. Prior to removing the ignition coil, spray compressed air around the coil base at the cylinder head.
  3. Remove the ignition coil.
  4. Prior to removing the spark plug, spray compressed air into the cylinder head opening.
  5. Remove the spark plug from the cylinder head using a quality socket with a rubber or foam insert.
  6. Inspect spark plug condition.

Durango 2013-2020 Spark Plugs Installation

Caution: Never use a motorized wire wheel brush to clean spark plugs. Metallic deposits will remain on spark plug insulator and will cause plug misfire.

Caution: Do not attempt to clean any of the spark plugs. (Dodge Durango Spark Plugs 5.7L)

1. To aid in the coil installlation, apply silicone based grease such as mopar dielectric grease into the spark plug end of the igntion coil rubber boots. Also apply this grease to the tops of spark plugs.

2. Check and adjust the spark plug gap with a gap gauging tool. See the spark plug specification section for plug gap.

3. Start the spark plug into the cylinder head by hand to avoid cross threading. Special care should be taken when installing spark plugs into the cylinder head spark plug wells. Be sure the spark plugs do not drop into the plug wells as electrodes can be damaged.
