Battery for Cars
There are always many questions about the battery for cars?
What is in a car battery? What does a car battery do? How does a car battery stay charged? Those are just a few question about the battery for cars, hopefully I can answer a few for you today.
First things first what makes up the battery for cars?
We know it has the Battery Terminals, but what exactly are the battery terminals and what do they do?
The battery terminal are the two points on the battery that allow interaction to take place within the cars electrical system. They are the electrical contacts that allow communication to be made to other parts of the car such as the radio, a/c, windows, etc.
What is in the battery for cars?
Battery acid is in the car battery it is a mixture of distilled water and Sulfuric acid it goes through a purification and mixing process and is poured into the car battery. The solution is mixed at different percentages based on the battery size and manufacturer; however, it is usually mixed around a 30-50% ratio. This means the battery stores chemical energy not electricity. Whenever the battery is signaled to be use it converts the chemical energy into electricity.
How does the battery for cars stay charged for so long?
The battery is rechargeable and the way that it is recharged is from the alternator. The alternator produces electricity in an alternating current (AC) in order to charge the battery, it converts it into a direct current (DC) using the mechanical power from the engine. While the car is running the mechanical power from the car is using the alternator to constantly charge your battery. In order to do this the rotor on the alternator is spun, which is powered by the rotation of the internal components of the engine.
How does the battery for cars start the car?
In order to start your vehicle, the battery supplies electricity to a small electrical motor known as the “starter motor” or otherwise known as the “starter” of the car. When the battery supplies the electricity the starter motor will engage a small wheel onto the flywheel of the car engine, and it turns the wheel on the crankshaft. The crankshaft is basically the backbone of the combustion engine and is a vital part of the car. Once the starter engages the flywheel it starts the car and disengages the flywheel. The starter takes 100s of amps to do this which is supplied by the car battery.
So far, we have learned many things about the battery for cars, we learned about battery terminals, battery acid, alternators, the starter motor, and a few other things. With this knowledge maybe you will feel a little more comfortable with our next step.
Replacing the battery for cars.
Since you know a little more about the battery for cars, now we can focus on how to replace it.
There are a few ways you can buy a battery you can go to a car part store such as AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, even Walmart sells batteries so there are many options there. You can go to a mechanic shop and they will charge you for the battery and replace the battery for you. Or you can go to a Mobile Battery Replacement mechanic like us 😊.

If you decide to buy a battery yourself and replace it there are pros and cons to that.
The pros are you must purchase the battery from somewhere and put it in. There will be no instillation fee, and you get to experience the fun process of installing a battery yourself, however there are some auto parts stores that will install the battery for you, you will just have to ask beforehand.
The cons of replacing the battery yourself are, you usually must drive with someone in order to purchase the battery because on average many people will not replace their car battery until it is too late, and the car will not be running. The other con is you must know how to replace the battery yourself and risk further damage to the vehicle without any insurance to the work.
If you wish to go to a mechanic shop to get your battery replaced there are of course pros and cons to that as well.
The pros are you are supplied with the battery and install on site at once, so once you are there you will get the battery and hopefully your car will be running. Another pro is since you are at the mechanic shop you can now get the car looked at to see whether there are any issues with the car by a trained professional.
The cons are the price is generally higher for the battery and the install depending on the shop some charge a higher price for the battery, and there will be an installation fee. You will also more than likely must tow the car to the shop there will be a charge there as well and depending how far the shop it could possible be more than the battery.
If you wish to get a mobile mechanic service to replace your battery there are pros and cons there as well, I will try not to be biased.
The pros are you will get the battery delivered with the installation done on site wherever you are located, you will not need to know how to replace your battery or ride with a friend in order to get a battery. Another pro is you will have the work warrantied and insured so that if anything is done incorrectly you will know that you are protected, and usually that warranty last for around 2-3 years. Our warranty last three years here at Autotech Mobile Mechanic and Mobile Battery Replacement and if anything does go wrong with your car for that part, we offer Towing, Battery Jump Start, Emergency Fuel Delivery, Lock Out Aid, and Flat Tire Assistance.
The cons of this are you must pay an installation fee depending on the mechanic they may charge anywhere between $50-100. Here at Autotech Mobile Mechanic we charge $50 for our installation but you will have to call whoever is close to you in order to know what they charge. Another con is Many mechanics will upcharge on the price of the battery to make more money, we use the retail battery price here at Autotech Mobile Mechanic and will provide pictures upon request however other shops may not operate the same way you will have to do your research and make some calls to truly know.
